Description from food designer

Yolélé Greens Fonio Pilaf makes it easy for anyone to serve a delicious and wholesome West African meal in just five minutes, and serving it supports livelihoods from climate-resilient, small scale farming in West Africa!

The product's base ingredient is the drought-tolerant, gluten-free, ancient West African grain fonio. Fonio's average carbon footprint is nearly 80% lower than that of rice, and fonio's average water footprint is 99% lower than that of corn or rice! With densely nutritious moringa leaves included, it also supports agro-forestry.

Additional information from food designer

Yolélé is an African food company that brings the flavors and ingredients of West Africa to a wider world, all in support of rural livelihoods from sustainable, small-scale, climate-resilient farming. We showcase fonio as our first ingredient platform, using it to make products in several grocery categories. To achieve our impact and business objectives, we are installing industrial scale processing capacity in West Africa. We identified that as the missing link preventing farmers from earning income from under-utilized indigenous crops like fonio. It turns out that global food beverage companies really do want to contribute to a better world. If uniquely nutritious, functional, and environmentally and socially impactful ingredients like fonio are made viable for them, they will use them in their products! Yolélé's products are showcases for that use case.
